Introduction and ice breaker
To open the program, DOTO will welcome the participants with short opening remarks. After this, participants will quickly introduce themselves and present their Homework (refer to last page). Finally, the objectives and agenda of the workshop will be presented.
Participants will be introduced to what is data visualization and the value it brings to resource governance advocacy work. A short online quiz will follow the presentation.
Where does one start in designing data visualizations? In this session, participants will be introduced to the Data Visualization (DVa) Planning Tool. An activity will follow where participants will use the DVa Tool to assess existing infographics. Select participants will be chosen randomly to present their assessment to everyone.
In today's era, data alone will not work. Humans love stories. In this session, participants will learn about techniques and examples in combining extractives data and developing narratives to convey a message.
iv. how to apply our ideas?
With data visualization and storytelling concepts covered, how do we turn our ideas into reality? Canva is a powerful online tool in communication. Participants will be introduced to its basic uses specifically in designing infographics.
In this challenge, participants will be grouped into threes. Using what they learned from the previous sessions, each group will be given a set of data and a scenario. They will be tasked to design a simple infographic using Canva.
Groups will present their outputs to everyone. By the end of the presentations, participants will be asked to rate other groups’ outputs. The winning group shall receive a simple token.
